## Car - Mitsubishi Mirage Cup Car

At the 24-hour race in 2002, Mirages prepared by Mal Rose came 11th, 12th and 19th outright. Hard work when you're up against Ferraris, Porsches and an 8-litre Monaro, at Australia's fastest circuit.

Don't be fooled into thinking this is an ordinary Mirage. Clearly, it isn't.

A couple of years ago when the Mirage Cup Series was started, Mal took on the task of ensuring all these imported cars were equal in performance. And equally safe.

Unlike many other "one-make" series, these are serious racing cars. A ride in the passenger seat beside Mal truly is a real racing experience.

Purpose-built to EVO specifications by Ralliart in Japan, these little rockets scream up to 8200rpm, where they produce more than twice the power of the local cars.

Most importantly, the combination of EVO-spec brakes, fully sorted racing suspension, and sticky rubber make these cars grip, go, and stop like you would not believe.

The proof is in the pudding. The Mirage doesn't have the brutal grunt of the V8s, but in Mal's hands, it is capable of lapping Oran Park in 50 seconds, about 5 seconds behind the V8 Supercars. That is still considerably faster than a well driven road-going HSV, Porsche Carrera or BMW M3. Amazing.

If your budget doesn't quite run to the V8 supercar, of if a generous partner has treated you to a V8 Supercar ride, you might consider thanking them with a ride in this little screamer - the mighty Mirage Cup car.

Maximum speed at Oran Park GP circuit is about 200kph.

Both hands on the wheel please driver!

Spartan interior, but noisy!
